Privacy Policy

Who I am

Reco is designed by Tom Wicks, based in the United Kingdom. I am the data controller for any personal data processed through the app. You can reach me at tom@tdwcks.com.

What data Reco collects

Reco is designed to collect as little data as possible. There are no user accounts and no sign-in.

Location

If you grant permission, Reco accesses your location to show nearby places on the map. Your location is used on your device only and is never sent to my servers or any third party. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings.

Saved places

When you save a place, that preference is stored locally on your device. It is not synced to any server and I have no access to it.

Reports

If you report a problem with a place (for example, that it has closed or has incorrect details), the report is sent to my database. Reports contain only the place identifier, the type of issue, and any additional detail you choose to provide. Reports are fully anonymous — no device identifier, IP address, or other personal information is attached.

Analytics

Reco uses TelemetryDeck for privacy-friendly analytics. It records usage signals such as a place being viewed or saved, a collection being opened, and how many results a search returned. The words you type into search are not sent. So that these can be counted per person rather than only in total, each signal carries an anonymous installation identifier: a one-way hash of an identifier Apple provides to me, which is the same across my apps on your device and resets if you delete them. It is not your advertising identifier, it cannot be used to recognise you in another company's app, and it is not linked to your name, email, or any account — Reco has no accounts. TelemetryDeck does not build advertising profiles and I do not combine this data with anything from anyone else.

Data I do not collect

Reco does not collect or process:

• Names, email addresses, or contact information
• Advertising identifiers
• IP addresses
• The words you type into search
• Cookies or cross-app tracking data

Third-party services

Reco relies on the following third-party services:

• Apple MapKit — renders the in-app map. Subject to Apple's privacy policy.
• Supabase — hosts the database of places and anonymous reports. Subject to Supabase's privacy policy.
• TelemetryDeck — provides the analytics described above. Subject to TelemetryDeck's privacy policy.

Legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, the legal basis for the limited processing Reco performs islegitimate interest — specifically, providing and improving the app. For location data, the legal basis is your consent, which you provide through the iOS permission prompt and can withdraw at any time.

Data retention

Anonymous reports are retained for as long as they are useful for maintaining accurate place information and are periodically deleted. Deleting Reco resets the installation identifier described above, so analytics recorded before and after are not connected. Analytics data is retained by TelemetryDeck in accordance with their retention policy. Saved places remain on your device until you remove them or delete the app.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Reco holds nothing that identifies you by name — there are no accounts and I hold no contact details. The one exception is the anonymous installation identifier attached to analytics, and because it is a one-way hash I have no way of telling which one is yours, so I cannot look your data up on request. You can clear it yourself by deleting the app, which resets it. If you have questions or concerns, contact me at tom@tdwcks.com. Children's privacy

Reco is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect any personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
